Meditation books
The only meditation books I recommend are ones that I own and find useful.
Here is the first one. It is not a book just about meditation, it is about working with the habitual conditioning of the mind. Happiness is a process that occurs when we think, feel and behave in certain ways. It is not exclusively a product of getting what we want.
I like this book. It is a bit overbearingly American in its presentation, which can be a bit off putting to UK readers, and I have reservations about the simplicity with which some of the techniques are said to work, but I like this book.
It is full of solid, researched facts that put a perspective on what happiness is and how we can all improve our 'happiness setpoint'.
It is full of techniques that are presented simply and when you read them, you think, 'I could do that'.
It is practical, you could get the book and be applying the techniques the same day!
I own it and I recommend it as one of my favourite meditation books.
Here's one of my favourite quotes:
"Though meditating is relaxing and enjoyable, its greatest value comes from the influence it has on your life outside of meditation".
"Meditation does much more than just help you to cope with stress. Some of the most exciting research being done today shows that meditation puts you on the fast track to being happy by enhancing activity in areas of the brain associated with happiness and compassion".
